THE HISTORY, 1982

Sebastian is about to give birth to its first Italian-American Club and anyone in the Sebastian River area of Italian descent or related to an Italian by marriage has been invited to be on hand for christening.

An organizational meeting for would-be Italian-American Club patrons has been scheduled for 7 P.M. Monday in the Sebastian River Area Chamber of Commerce building on U.S. 1 and Main street.

Spearheading the organizational effort is Charles Bonogiflio. “We have quite an Italian community here in Sebastian,” Bonofiglio said. “Many of the people have been attending Italian-American functions in Palm Bay and Vero Beach, but they’d really like to have a club closer to home.”

“I wondered, Why not right here in Sebastian, and a lot of people thought that was a really good idea. I’m just trying to get the ball rolling now,” Bonofiglio concluded.
